As millennials, we are rather up to date on everything and anything going on around us and basically everyone across the globe (more or less). We might be the reason for a crazy meme going viral or a lame trend suddenly becoming all hip and all (do you still say that?)! nevertheless, we seem to be one of those generations that are totally absorbed with in the sites of social media and technology in general. And so, because of this, we are always looking for the easiest ways of doing almost anything and are easily bored and annoyed with the old school ways.
However, if you were to join a firm, unless it is an IT company, there is always a chance where there is more priority given to the old school ways and youngsters and their so called cool ideas, are easily disregarded. This seems to create a huge barrier between the seniors of the older generation and the youngsters of today. However, if a firm were to ever achieve success they need to ensure that such gaps are minimal and equal opportunities are granted for all. And it is because of this that they need to ensure that the juniors in the firm get along with seniors. And thus encouraging them to work together. When doing so, here are a few things that is needed to be pointed out beforehand, to them.
Creating an understanding
Only when your team members truly get to know each other, would they be able to create a proper sense of understanding. It is this sense of understanding that would help them corporate with each other in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the firm. So as the employer it is your duty to create such opportunities that allows this bonding to happen naturally. While you might be offering your seniors with home nursing services and such as added privileges, that are beneficial for their personal lives, you need to also offer certain additional settings created by you, in order to make sure that everyone in your firm gets along with each other without any sort of barrier or difference. In order to ensure that such thoughts of understanding are developed within your employees, you could create group based assessments and projects with combined people of different ages, or may be even outbound training programs that too assist a lot in creating a boundless team spirit!
Inculcating independence and dignity
You need to remember that although these persons are much older than you, they aren’t struggling with any sort of defect and such. And so, you need to treat them accordingly without babying them or trying to do everything for them. One of the most important things that many people stress on when it comes to senior care is that, being active mentally, physically and even emotionally, is necessary and essential. And so it is why they are encouraged to work for a longer a period of age instead of retiring too early. However, it is the employer’s duty to assign them accordingly with tasks that could be managed all by themselves. So let them do their work on their own, because it is only then would they feel independent for themselves while also being grateful for treating them in a dignified manner. This will help you get along with them in a much better way, as well.
Follow these and ensure that you have a smooth work life especially with regards to your colleagues!
